La Duquesa a largely modern collection of hotels, villas and apartment developments, centred around the La Duquesa castle and tower, guarding the sports marina of the same name. The 18th century fortress of Castillo de la Duquesa stands on the coast in the middle of what was once a large Roman fishing village, revealed by excavations in 1989. The Roman bath house consists of two large chambers and a hot house whose under-floor heating system can be clearly seen.
